Foundation Gives $250,000 to Tulane's Biomedical Engineering Department for Disaster Relief
ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 17, 2006 -- The foundation has given Tulane
University's Biomedical Engineering Department $250,000 to help
recover from the disasterous effects of Hurricanes Katrina and
Rita.
"This will provide not only a tremendous tangible boost,
but also a huge lift of our spirits," said Department Chairman
Richard Hart. The funds will help the department speed the reestablishment
of its quality educational and research activities.
The gift carries no restrictions. The department will use the
money as needed.
"All of us here wish you success for a fast recovery,
and for a thriving Department of Biomedical Engineering,"
Whitaker President and CEO Peter G. Katona, Sc.D., said in making
the announcement.
The Biomedical Engineering Department at Tulane was founded
in 1977, making it one of the older departments in the country.
Its faculty has a wide range of expertise, covering biomechanics,
biomaterials, bioelectronics, bioelectricity and cell and tissue
engineering.
